Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork

This delicious Dr Pepper Pulled Pork is sure to be a hit at your next gathering! Our recipe combines the classic smoky flavor of BBQ with the unique taste of Dr Pepper to give you a unique and flavorful dish. This slow cooked pulled pork is perfect for sandwiches, tacos, or served on its own! With just a few simple ingredients and a few hours in the slow cooker, you'll be able to enjoy this amazing Dr Pepper Pulled Pork in no time.
Ingredients:
- 4 to 5 pounds pork butt or pork shoulder
- 1 medium-size sweet yellow onion (1 ½ cups), sliced thin
- 1 ½ cups or 12-ounce bottle/can of Dr Pepper
- 2 tablespoons liquid smoke
- 1 tablespoon fresh minced garlic
- ¼ cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon cumin
- 1 cup of your favorite barbecue sauce
- Hamburger buns or deli rolls
- 15-ounce container of coleslaw, optional
Heating the RockTablet on stovetop:
- Lay the sliced onion evenly in the bottom of the inner cooking pot.
- Place the pork on top of the onions then pour the Dr Pepper over the meat.
- Mix the liquid smoke, honey, and garlic in a small bowl. Evenly cover the pork with the sauce with a basting brush or pastry brush.
- In another small bowl stir together the brown sugar, onion powder, kosher salt, smoked paprika, black pepper, and cumin.
- Evenly sprinkle the dry seasoning mixture over the smoke sauce.
- Place RockTablet on burner
- Place inner pot on RockTablet
- Turn heat on high heat for 30 minutes with the lid on
- After 30 minutes, turn off heat, remove inner pot from stone
- Place HOT RockTablet in the bottom of the RockPot
- Put inner cooking pot (full of hot food) in the RockPot on the hot stone
- Close the RockPot and latch the lid
- Let cook for 6-7 hours
- When pork is done, it will be tender and easy to shred.
- Shred the pork in the Rockpot or in a large serving dish or on a cutting board using two forks or tongs.
- Add the BBQ sauce and toss with the tongs to coat the shredded meat evenly.
Heating the RockTablet by fire:
- Heat the RockTablet for a full 30 minutes in the fire. Follow our fire guide here
- While stone is heating, combine all ingredients in the inner cooking pot.
- Place HOT stone in the bottom of the RockPot.
- Put inner cooking pot (full of food) in the RockPot on the RockTablet.
- Put the lid on the inner pot.
- Close the RockPot and latch the lid.
- Let cook for 6-8 hours
- When pork is done, it will be tender and easy to shred.
- Shred the pork in the Rockpot or in a large serving dish or on a cutting board using two forks or tongs.
- Add the BBQ sauce and toss with the tongs to coat the shredded meat evenly.
