Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork
This delicious Dr Pepper Pulled Pork is sure to be a hit at your next gathering! Our recipe combines the classic smoky flavor of BBQ with the unique taste of Dr Pepper to give you a unique and flavorful dish. This slow cooked pulled pork is perfect for sandwiches, tacos, or served on its own! With just a few simple ingredients and a few hours in the slow cooker, you'll be able to enjoy this amazing Dr Pepper Pulled Pork in no time.

Ingredients:

  • 4 to 5 pounds pork butt or pork shoulder
  • 1 medium-size sweet yellow onion (1 ½ cups), sliced thin
  • 1 ½ cups or 12-ounce bottle/can of Dr Pepper
  • 2 tablespoons liquid smoke 
  • 1 tablespoon fresh minced garlic
  • ¼ cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder 
  • 2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • 1 cup of your favorite barbecue sauce
  • Hamburger buns or deli rolls
  • 15-ounce container of coleslaw, optional

Heating the RockTablet on stovetop:

  1. Lay the sliced onion evenly in the bottom of the inner cooking pot.
  2. Place the pork on top of the onions then pour the Dr Pepper over the meat. 
  3. Mix the liquid smoke, honey, and garlic in a small bowl. Evenly cover the pork with the sauce with a basting brush or pastry brush.
  4. In another small bowl stir together the brown sugar, onion powder, kosher salt, smoked paprika, black pepper, and cumin.
  5. Evenly sprinkle the dry seasoning mixture over the smoke sauce.
  6. Place RockTablet on burner
  7. Place inner pot on RockTablet
  8. Turn heat on high heat for 30 minutes with the lid on
  9. After 30 minutes, turn off heat, remove inner pot from stone
  10. Place HOT RockTablet in the bottom of the RockPot
  11. Put inner cooking pot (full of hot food) in the RockPot on the hot stone
  12. Close the RockPot and latch the lid
  13. Let cook for 6-7 hours
  14. When pork is done, it will be tender and easy to shred.
  15. Shred the pork in the Rockpot or in a large serving dish or on a cutting board using two forks or tongs.
  16. Add the BBQ sauce and toss with the tongs to coat the shredded meat evenly.

Heating the RockTablet by fire:

  1. Heat the RockTablet for a full 30 minutes in the fire. Follow our fire guide here
  2. While stone is heating, combine all ingredients in the inner cooking pot.
  3. Place HOT stone in the bottom of the RockPot.
  4. Put inner cooking pot (full of food) in the RockPot on the RockTablet.
  5. Put the lid on the inner pot.
  6. Close the RockPot and latch the lid.
  7. Let cook for 6-8 hours
  8. When pork is done, it will be tender and easy to shred.
  9. Shred the pork in the Rockpot or in a large serving dish or on a cutting board using two forks or tongs.
  10. Add the BBQ sauce and toss with the tongs to coat the shredded meat evenly.
